5 great reasons to spend Christmas on the Isle of Wight

Have you ever fancied getting away from it all at Christmas? Making some new traditions while keeping the best of the old ones? A Christmas on the Isle of Wight could be just what you re looking for.

There are so many things to see and do for everyone, from families to couples spending their first holiday together, so why not hop on the ferry and enjoy a different kind of celebration?

A very traditional Christmas

We owe our Christmas to Queen Victoria s husband, Albert, who imported German traditions like the decorated tree to the UK. That makes enjoying a proper Victorian Christmas at Osborne House, the Queen s favourite residence, all the more special.

Hear Father Christmas tell tales of Christmas Past or warm up with a hot tipple. Marvel at the Victorian toymakers, buy beautiful gifts at the Christmas market and take a ride on the gorgeous carousel.

Experience the magic of Polar

Pippa the Polar Bear is lost on the Isle of Wight and she needs your help. That s the story behind this magical Christmas entertainment at Robin Hill Country Park. Take an enchanting winter journey through the twinkling woods before experiencing the incredible amphitheatre show, with dance and acrobatics that all the family will enjoy.

There are also 6 posters to find scattered around the island, each with a hidden letter. Find them, unscramble the anagram and be in with a chance of the grand prize!

Discover squirrels and mince pies

There are some beautiful walks on the Isle of Wight that you can enjoy at any time of year, but if you re in a festive mood, what could be better than seeing some of the island s most famous inhabitants - the red squirrels. These gorgeous creatures can still be seen on the Isle of Wight, so why not join a guided walk through their habitat to find out more?

Pop on your wellies and grab your binoculars then enjoy delicious mince pies to round off a great day. Or try a walk on one of the many spectacular beaches that are just as magical and romantic in winter.

Ride the Santa Special

The atmosphere at the Havenstreet station is always special at Christmas, with music, a market and magic shows for the kids. If you re spending Christmas with little children, then there s nothing more special than a ride on a steam train with Santa himself.

If you re lucky, you ll even see the elves loading up the presents destined for Santa s sleigh and the trip itself through the wintry wonderland of the island is something your family will never forget.

Oh no, he didn't!

Caravan holidays are an affordable and fun way to enjoy the island and our fully equipped caravan in Shanklin couldn t be more convenient. Stroll into town and visit the Jingle Bells Christmas shop, which is guaranteed to get you in the festive mood.

Then visit the magnificent Victorian theatre with its full programme of festive entertainment including ballet, stand up comedy and of course panto - this year, you can boo Long John Silver in Treasure Island and hiss the wicked vizier in Aladdin.

With so much to see and do, spending Christmas on the Isle of Wight is unmissable.
