Caravan holidays in Shanklin

Shanklin is the ideal base for a holiday on the Isle of Wight, offering the perfect location from which to explore - if you can bear to tear yourself away from the town itself.

Shanklin provides an idyllic mix that is sure to tantalise and delight, whether you love exploring streets lined with thatched cottages, walking along golden sands, eating ice-cream on the promenade, feasting on gourmet-quality food or simply feeding your loose change into the fun games in a family-friendly arcade.

Shanklin is one of the most popular resorts on the Isle of Wight and for very good reason - it offers a traditional seaside holiday experience that can fulfil the desires of all generations of any family.

People of all ages can enjoy the scenic walk along the beach between Shanklin and the neighbouring resort of Sandown, whilst the young and the young at heart can dabble in the traditional seaside attractions on the main esplanade, including arcade games, fairground rides and traditional seaside shops. There are beach huts to rent, water sports to try out and a soft play area for the little ones to let off some steam.

Away from the shore lies the bustling town itself with its shops, restaurants and bars. Shanklin old village is a must-see destination, boasting chocolate box thatched cottages and an array of interesting craft shops and cosy tearooms.

This is also the location for the picture-perfect Shanklin Chine. This deep gorge has been carved out by the local stream and sparkling water, lush greenery and spectacular rocks combine to create a lush environment, where peace and tranquillity reign supreme.

The waterfalls and woodland around the gorge are illuminated at night, offering a magical, almost fairytale ambiance, whilst the Pluto pipeline, which carried petrol to Cherbourg and was central to the 1944 Normandy invasion, can be found at the bottom of the chine.

Caravan holidays in Shanklin also open the door to a whole host of other island experiences. The popular resort of Sandown is literally next door and there are all sorts of other must-see locations within a short drive.

One of the best things about holidaying on the Isle of Wight is that nothing is very far away, especially when you choose such a well-placed location as a caravan in the enchanting and exciting town of Shanklin. There is plenty to do for a weekend, week or fortnight and the attractions and scenery continue to attract visitors back year after year.
